Axiom I

Every physical actuality is the sign of a metaphysical possibility.

  1. what does that mean?

  2. It is an inversion of the normal cause \ effect relationship. Rather than saying, like Aristotle, that all things must be caused and hence there is a first cause (which is true), I phrased it differently to elucidate what I believe to be a more controversial and important point. That is to say, metaphysical realities don’t simply underpin us as a massive first cause but lay behind every physical cause along the way. Every physical actualization or actuality is not only indicative of the first cause as Aristotle pointed out, but also of a connectedness – a continual cause connected to that first cause metaphysically.

It is an axiom because it is really undependable but it is a principle I accept as true. From this arbitrary position I find a lot of possibilities and affirmations, hence I believe it. If one merely accepts it to be true, I find it leads to a deeper study of things which can never be bad – even if its false.

Any more sense to that? Or have I become even more muddled?

  3. hehe i guess i would wonder if Aristotle’s first cause was a shove into existence and nothing more or a real metaphysical tie that even after its initial motion leave such an indelible mark as to never really have separated itself from the effect…

  5. Indeed. I think the notion of imprinting fits this most. It is, I think, why we desire to know it. Because we really desire to know ourelves, and that always leads us to those things that imprint on us.

  6. I’ve never heard this before. I think it is true. And important.

    • Why thank you. It is something that I take as true with no sign of proof. So when others find it apt or important, that means a great deal to me. (Its really the only way I can tell if I am insane or somewhat wise… I am probably both… hopefully?)
